OWL AwardsOn October 21, 2010 the Sacramento Valley Chapter of NAWBO will celebrate its 13th annual Outstanding Women Leaders(OWL) Awards Banquet at the DoubleTree Sacramento Hotel at 6p.m.  Kitty O’Neal, a local radio personality will preside as Mistress of Ceremonies as she has done since the inception of the awards. And for the first time this year we will have a keynote speaker which will be Michele DeKinder-Smith, nationally acclaimed speaker and founder of Jane Out of the Box. She is an entrepreneur twice over and is passionately committed to helping women succeed via entrepreneurship. This is our signature event of the year and we would like you to join us in support of this event which will honor not only women business owners but also women who are leaders in the business community in the Sacramento region.

The OWL Awards are given to women in a number of categories:

  • Woman on the Way Award (Up and coming business owner, less than 5 years in business)
  • Woman Innovator Award (Successful business owner in a non-traditional business)
  • Luminary Award (An individual/organization lighting the way for others)
  • Executive Woman Award (Senior level corporate woman)
  • Visionary Award (An organization whose vision provides opportunities for women)
  • Wise Woman Award (Business Woman of the Year)
  • Achievement Against All Odds (Success despite unfavorable circumstances)

Silvers worked in the corporate human resources world for more than 20 years before she decided to go into business for herself. Tired of office politics, long meetings and stuffy clothes, she cashed out her stock options and went on a self-described sabbatical for a year, working on building her new home in the meantime.

Risky as it was, and especially is during tough economic times, she wouldn’t trade it for anything. “There are only two things I missed about being in the corporate world when I first left: my group health insurance and the IT department,” she confesses. “I love the energy that comes with working for yourself. I still work long hours, but now there’s a direct relationship between the number of hours I work and how successful I am.” Read More

2008 OWL Award Winners

On October 16, 2008 the Sacramento Valley Chapter of NAWBO celebrated its 11th annual Outstanding Women Leaders(OWL) Awards Banquet at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.  Kitty O’Neal  local radio personality presided as Mistress of Ceremonies as she has done since the inception of the awards. This is our signature event of the year and we would like to thank all those that supported this event which honored women business owners and women who are leaders in the business community in the Sacramento region.

The OWL Awards were given to these women in the following categories:
